Key Stage 4

This qualification equips learners with the skills and confidence to explore how different business situations affect business decisions. It is a well-rounded introduction to the subject. The qualification will encourage learners to make informed choices about a wide range of further learning opportunities and career pathways as well as develop life skills that enable them to become financially and commercially aware.

There are two examined themes:

  • Business activity, marketing and people
  • Operations, finance and influences on business

Business activity, marketing and people is studied in Year 10 and covers setting up a business, aims and objectives of a business, type of business and we look at marketing a product the importance of market research and other aspects of selling a product. Students then look at the people involved in business and how organisations set up their organisational structures and communications alongside employment and employment law.

Operations, finance and influences on business’ will be studied in Year 11. Students will gain and understanding of what business operations involve, their role within the production of goods and the provision of services, and how they influence business activity. Students will explore the purpose of the finance function, its role in business and how it influences business activity. And finally, they will explore the importance of external influences on business and how businesses change in response to these influences.
