Home Learning
At Oak Academy, we are committed to ensuring every student receives the support they need to reach their full academic potential. One of the ways we achieve this is through regular and purposeful home learning, which plays a vital role in reinforcing classroom instruction and promoting long-term success.
Why?
Research indicates that students who take part in additional study support activities outside of their normal learning achieve better results at Year 11 than their peers of equal ability who do not participate. The potential benefits of participation in these activities are significant, including improved academic outcomes and a deeper understanding of key concepts.
What? At Oak Academy, regular home learning will be appropriate and focus on the improvement and understanding of vocabulary, as well as information retention. This will lead to an increased depth of understanding in all lessons while linking to the substantive knowledge needed for both academic and real-world success. This academic year we will be deploying a variety of home learning tasks using a range of platforms including Sparx Maths, Sparx Reader, Seneca and Teams. Subject areas will guide students to access these platforms throughout term one so that students are confident to navigate their way to the tasks set.
When? We are fully committed to the setting, completion, tracking, and assessment of homework as an integral part of each student’s educational provision. Homework is set regularly across all subject areas in both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, ensuring that it consolidates, deepens, and extends students’ learning. Through this process, students will gain the skills they need to excel both in their academic studies and in their future endeavours. Teachers will set home learning in student planners following the timetable at the bottom of this letter. Although there are not specific days for KS3, due to the complexity of their timetable, students should always be given 5 school days to complete their home learning task before hand in. All students have been given an orange home learning folder so that they are able to organise their studies and protect their work from any adverse weather whilst traveling to and from school. It is expected that the folders will stay in their Oak Academy bags.
