What questions should you ask when visiting an activity provider?
The Poole Family information directory also has good guidance for parents about the questions to ask when looking for a club or activity for their child. Visit their website for more information: poolefamilyinformationdirectory.com
The NSPCC runs the Child Protection in Sport Unit which has a website with a lot of useful information for sports clubs and for parents. Information can be found at cpsu.org.uk
Share Aware
Being Share Aware makes the internet safer
Share Aware, from NSPCC and O2, gives parents all the tools they need to have regular and informed conversations with their child about staying safe online. Under 20% of parents discuss online safety regularly with their children but we want to get every family talking about their child’s life online, just as they would their day at school.
Parents can sign up to the Icebreaker email series and become an expert in their child’s online world in 6 weeks, follow our four simple steps to keeping kids safe online, watch our film ‘Safety advice from a 10 year old’ or visit Net Aware – our guide to your child’s social networks apps and games.
The internet is a great place for kids to be, being Share Aware makes it safer.

Pan Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership
On 1st August 2019 a new Pan-Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership took over statutory responsibility for leadership and multi-agency co-ordination of “arrangements to work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.”
Accountability for the Pan-Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership rests with Dorset Police, Dorset CCG, Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council and Dorset Council with a “shared and equal duty” to engage with all other “relevant agencies” working with children and young people to ensure a coherent approach to the wider, local safeguarding system. Their website is https://pdscp.co.uk/

NSPCC – Clubs and Sports advice
The NSPCC has recently updated its guidance for parents and carers on how to make sure your children are safe in clubs, sports and other activities. There is a particularly important reference to private tutors with further information about the references and vetting checks you should request.
We hope you find this information useful.
